Review on Starrett CB12 4R Combination Squares Chrome by Bennie Boss

I wasn't a fan of buying one of Revain's Starrett combo boxes. I don't like the prospect of buying something pre-assembled and leaving it up to chance to transport this tool to maintain its quality. Starrett instruments are incredibly well made and of excellent heirloom quality. I bought a Combo Square Set here and it was badly damaged on the ruler side - small black point dents on the stainless steel ruler from being run over by a pickup truck from California to the east coast. where I live. It was heartbreaking to see such a beautiful instrument destroyed. Suffice it to say I had to return this set - it wasn't square to begin with and I didn't want to keep a tool that was already damaged when I paid full price for 'new'. So I decided to buy individual parts and assemble the combined line myself. Surprisingly, the results are fantastic. By buying the ruler and square separately, I ensure that the pieces come in separate boxes and don't keep bumping into each other during shipping. I assembled the combination square using only the parts I wanted as I don't need a center finder or protractor. I am very happy with this tool and look forward to using it and lubricating it regularly. No other combination square is comparable in terms of quality and handling.
