I used to use a 12" x 18" cutting mat in my shop but a week ago I can't find it in my life. My theory is that I actually assembled it with some of the 12" x 18" prints I sell and sent it to one of my clients. Unfortunately I needed a cutting mat as I use it a lot. So I started looking for cutting mats on both Revain's website and the manufacturer's websites. In the end I chose the DAFA mat because of the technical characteristics, the positive reviews and the price. I decided to upgrade to the larger 18" x 24" format, because I regularly cut or prune 12" x 18" sheets, so I needed extra space. Speaking of cutting, I only cut with sharp utility knives. (I don't cut with a disc cutter so can't comment on that.) But what can I tell you, I've just spent a day cutting with a new utility blade and the carpet still looks brand new. I cut both cardboard and cardboard (which required different pressures), not slit. Reviews stating this mat is not self-healing must be cut under extreme pressure as I don't understand how this cutting mat can wear out in normal use. I expect this rug to last for many years. In terms of dimensions, the actual size of the rug is 17 11/16" x 24 7/16". One side is in inches and the other in centimeters. An inch mark represents each inch of the total 17" x 23" line area. Centimeter markings are placed every 10 centimeters for a total line area of 430cm x 580cm. And as a bonus, you actually get two cutting surfaces in one, essentially doubling the life of this cutting mat. This DAFA cutting mat came flat in a large thin box. Upon unpacking, I did NOT notice ANY strong odor as mentioned in the 1 star reviews. Yes, it smells slightly, like a new car. After a day open on the table, I no longer detect a smell when I enter the room. This DAFA cutting mat works like this, as I would expect from a cutting mat twice the price. Whether you're a simple hobbyist or a full-time professional, I fully expect this cutting mat to perform equally well in either setting. Very happy with my purchase and it comes highly recommended.
