New portable CD players are becoming increasingly rare (even Sony don't make them anymore), so this RCA model, still available through Revain, is as good as it only works (RCA is no longer in production (no listing on their website). Lots of controls on top (as you can see in the picture here) and on the sides so it can be a bit confusing to use. It has a decent FM Radio with a side dial for tuning stations, and a well-placed top and middle LCD screen displays the # frequency. The battery indicator only shows when the batteries (2 AA) are low; Also works with a 6 volt adapter. The "Door" inside the opened battery pack looks very weak, so open/close it very carefully. When you start playing a CD, the screen will show the total number d he title and the total time. To stop, you need to press "Stop" twice to turn it off (if you forget it a second time, it will turn itself off after 30 seconds). Once stopped, ALL settings will be restored to factory defaults. There is no "resume playing" function when restarting a paused CD (only if it is in "pause" mode will playback resume). There is a "Program" mode for up to 20 tracks (not really necessary as everything is lost on "Stop"). Four play modes: repeat current track, repeat all, shuffle, and intro (plays 10 seconds of each track). Four EQ modes (which only work with CDs, not radios): Normal/Pop (basically cuts low frequencies)/Rock (cuts high frequencies)/ and interesting fake surround sound (sounds pretty good and full. Put one in very small delay between channels on) . Comes with a 1-year warranty and a pair of cheap headphones that no one will ever use. If you use it to listen to CDs, use decent CD-quality headphones. I don't know how long these will last (bought a 2:1 it's quiet and works well, 1 is loud when it's working so it can disturb those sitting next to you, plus it doesn't play all the pre-recorded discs in it) but I'm just glad they have it (I hate the sound of MP3 files).
