Many years after purchasing this drive I have had no problems. It's been over 15 years and it still works great! I'm using it on an early 2008 Mac Pro (10.12 Sierra onwards) and it works like the best. with my MacBook Air I put it in an external ATAPI/IDE USB 2.0/USB 3.0 enclosure and connected it to other computers. I don't think I've burned coasters in the past few years. The dual format is convenient and I regularly burn DVD+R DL discs. Works great on RW discs and has even been used on DVD-RAM with no issues. Definitely great if you have an older Mac Pro as it works great, lets you boot (which can be questionable on older Intel Macs) and is generally very reliable. If you find one of these even used, add it to your collection. They are very reliable and you shouldn't have any problems.
