Review on ๐ŸŠ Shappy Alligator with Plastic Handle by Jeremy Tyson

Fair value for money, just don't expect many of these

That's it first crocodile skin clips I bought but I have a few other types to compare. I like this design more than the ones with a very short leg and no cap on one side (although they are stronger). As long as your expectations are reasonable, everything is fine. The spring inside is weak, I felt some of them lost their bite power after a few uses, but some seem stronger than others. The hinge pin is also vulnerable, so the jaw alignment can be skewed fairly easily. But then again, it's 20 clips for $5.99, so it's pretty much the quality you'd expect for the price. I started connecting them in a different way than usual (I think), running the wire through a flat thumb cap rather than a 4mm jack. Remove the cap, thread the wire through the hole in it to the jaw, put the cap on, shrink/glue/solder in place depending on how permanent I want it to be. This leaves the side of the banana plug free and gives you a wire running from each leg when you connect something, rather than having them all on the same side. In general, they are ideal for making quick test connections. But if you want strong ones that you can use frequently for a long time, they might not be the best.

Pros
  • EASY TO OPEN: These heavy duty clips are easy to open and the spring loaded jaws close firmly, the strong jaws never fall out once clamped
Cons
  • No Instructions
