The first thing I noticed was a very strong chemical smell when I opened the packages. Most of this evaporates after about 40 minutes in the air. There was no residual odor transfer to my hands when I touched them. I then put a few of these in a plastic zip tie overnight to see if the smell came back strong. This did not happen, but a very faint chemical odor remained. Maybe paint? These buttons are 2" and 7/16" in diameter, 1/8" thick, very smooth to the touch, and flat on the back. The design is applied with paint and can be erased with a fingernail. One button has a wooden slot, but this is not uncommon in wooden button sets. The design is beautiful. They can be used in various crafts and others have posted pictures. I would use it on the front of a handmade bag or to decorate a hat, headband or scarf. Worth the price.
