Review on KeylessOption Black Shell Case and Button Pad for Replacement 5 Button Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob by Adam Abner

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Worked for a while then quit. questionable

This was very similar to my original block. Slightly thicker next to the key ring. I used my original circuit board and battery and it worked right away. The body and buttons are of very good quality. However, after a few days it would sometimes overshoot and not perform the function pressed - in fact, it wouldn't work at all no matter what key was pressed. I replaced the battery, cleaned the contacts, cleaned the conductive rubber, nothing. Put the circuit board and battery in the original case with the original rubber buttons and it worked again - also tried with a "new" battery in the original case with the original buttons and it still worked. I used to repair all kinds of electronics and did more thorough research because I wanted them to work. After additional testing in the new case, careful study and comparison with the original device, I may have found a problem. The new case appears to have a plastic tab that sits on one side of the battery. in the original this tongue is angular (1 side beveled), in the new it is straight (rectangular). It appears that in the original this forces the spring tab on the circuit board to contact and hold pressure on the battery. The newcomer cannot force this contact, which is why it rarely works. If it works and I press it, it won't work anymore until I disassemble and put it back together. I will continue with some more tests. This unit may work well with a different model year circuit board, my GMC is 2013, maybe in later years the internal circuit board design has changed and will work. I can contact the seller about this when I can definitively determine the cause. And no, I'm not just going to bend the spring contact!
