Thumbs up for the new design

(I originally wrote this review for a standalone dongle with no antennas, but as it's also relevant to this pack I'm reposting it here too) NooElec NESDR SMArt - Premium RTL - SDR with aluminum body, 0.5 PPM TCXO, SMA input. Software defined radio based on RTL2832U and R820T2 The new design is very nice. The narrower body makes it much easier to use in the tightest of spaces. Having two or more side-by-side when the distance between the USB ports is limited shouldn't be a problem, although top-to-bottom mounting can be an issue if the ports are close together. Aluminum body feels solid, fits and finishes great, no USB connector or SMA issues. The TCXO has a very tight tolerance; mine only needs a 0.25ppm correction. In terms of performance, they compare well with the popular RTL-SDR.com dongles. I don't see any noticeable difference in noise floor or any other category of performance to tell them apart, except for the slightly better TCXO that NooElec uses in these dongles. Both work equally well and are the only "budget" RTL keys you should spend money on these days. I already have a few keys from RTL-SDR.com and have not been very impressed with NooElec's offerings in the past. I felt it was too expensive at the time for the features that RTL-SDR.com included for less than half the price. Now that they have aligned their prices with RTL-SDR.com and released this new design with the best TCXO, they have me won over. I plan to buy several of these. See attached photos for a physical comparison along with the RTL-SDR.com dongle.
