Review on πŸ”’ Ultimate Security for Your Bicycle with the Kryptonite Evolution Mini Integrated 10mm Chain Lock by Tommy Almasri

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Unreliable key mechanism, unnecessarily bulky

Key stuck in lock. Even before that, it was difficult to turn the key in the lock and I often had to pull it out and put it back in to turn the lock. I've had other kryptonite locks and they all had this problem. The keyhole cover doesn't help. This one is too heavy. The Keeper 785 is a little better in every way. Any of these will effectively stop a bystander, even if that person has a hand/pocket bolt cutter. But if they REALLY want your bike, no lock will stop them. So, instead of this lock, you can buy a cheaper, more reliable and lighter bolt. I gave my friend one of the evolution locks. Both developments failed in the same way (key stuck in hole or key cannot be inserted). None of my locks broke like this, but a friend did (while his bike was locked - he had to hire a locksmith to cut the lock so he could get his bike). One of the caretaker's locks was stolen along with the bike he was locking. Which isn't much of a surprise as it was a beater bike and I left it locked outside on a public road for 2 months. I know it sounds like hitting a gatekeeper's lock, but I'm pretty sure the same thing would happen whichever lock I use - that's what happens when you leave your bike locked in public for months, without moving it. . Someone must have noticed that the bike was always there and came with a power tool to remove the lock. Evolution won't stop the right tools any more than a lock will if someone looked inside your bike and intended to steal it. Both are equally good at stopping the occasional opportunistic thief who comes by. So yes, save your money and get a manager. It will do its job in exactly the same way and be less of a hassle.
