If you use valve caps they work great!

I ordered them because the plastic valve caps keep breaking or coming off. Hats are great. They're lightweight, have a snug fit (rather than having to loosen like plastic often does), and offer protection from moisture and dirt. One can argue whether they are needed or not but I have always used them and will continue to use them as they give me some peace of mind. If you use Presta valves and close them, then by all means get them.
