Review on 🔒 Fellowes 3103201 Powershred W11C: Efficient 11-Sheet Cross-cut Paper and Credit Card Shredder with Safety Lock by Paul Walton

Fellowes is still my favorite chopper

I used my previous Fellowes chopper for over 15 years before it started choking and couldn't handle what I was feeding it. Maybe I should have oiled more often. I did an autopsy and found compressed, shredded paper stuck in the cutting disks that I couldn't get to until I disassembled it. I think it put too much stress on the chopper motor and it stopped working. Overall I was satisfied enough to contact Fellowes again for a new one. It's almost the same size (near the knee), although the placement of the controls is different. It has normal forward/off/reverse positions and a separate lock/unlock switch. I wasn't too keen on it at first, but after a few weeks of use I liked it. Sounds a lot louder than my old one. I wouldn't recommend late shredding. That's my biggest complaint. Although it's louder, it eats up paper quickly, has a folding handle for easy removal of the top, and has a hole on the top front edge for me to put small scraps that don't need to be shredded, and also acts as a Viewer to see how full the shopping cart is. I wish there were handles on the sides of the basket itself so you can grab the entire unit easily. Because the chopper is so heavy at the top, I have to tip the basket sideways so I can put a hand on the ground to lift it up. I do not verify the claimed 11 page capacity. I usually mail 4 to 5 sheets at a time and the ubiquitous junk mail. For thicker junk I open it up, split it in half and the shredder does a great job. As for credit cards, I've found that they eat old plastic cards with no problem, but now I have these titanium cards and I need a tin cutter to cut them through. It can't be that chopper ate it. I think it's a great shredder and I would buy it again at any time. It's not an office workhorse, so don't expect it. Don't overdo it and oil it regularly and it should perform well for years. If you do a lot of grinding, note how hot it is, and if it's very hot, let it sit and come back after it cools.
