Set the method that suits your needs, don't press too hard

The dentist always praises me for the health of my teeth, gums and tongue, and others always praise my white teeth and breath, so I thought maybe I should admit here that I feel that this is a big part of my routine! I have developed a method that I feel works best and avoids irritations that some say they have experienced. First, I don't push too hard, but use light to moderate movements. I start as close as possible to the right corner of the tongue and move the brush down to the tip. I do a punch, moving to the left, rinsing with warm water after each punch. It's like mowing the lawn row by row. Then I repeat again. Because I suffer from postnasal drip due to allergies, I tend to get a lot of buildup on the back of my tongue and much less on the middle and front. So I end up doing a few circular brush strokes on the back right and left (maybe about 5 each). I then use my regular brush with toothpaste to just go over the area, giving it a fresh scent and removing any plaque that has come loose but not picked up by the tung brush. I end up rinsing out Listerine, concentrating on just touching the back of my tongue (I avoid my teeth at night to avoid washing off the whitening toothpaste; I rinse my whole mouth out in the morning). It gives me fresh breath and a clean pink tongue all day long. To be honest, I will never go without a tongue brush again.
