I use Kester Resin Core Solder on a daily basis both as a quality assurance professional, electronics tester and repairer and in all my electronics hobby projects. Kester's 44 is a strong and reliable plumb bob for my home projects. This is lead solder, meaning it produces well-filled solder joints with IPC Class 3, MIL-spec flow characteristics. Most solder joints do not require additional flux unless you are working with an oxidized or contaminated board. Use the iron setting 650F for small to medium pads, 700F for large pads and grounds and you'll get perfect solder joints. Please note that Kester offers different gauges of wire for different pad sizes. .031" wire is a good all-around choice for through and surface soldering. You can also get excellent lead-free wire from Kester. Personally, I prefer 60/40 wire and 63/37 eutectic wire for my projects because the connections will last for decades.
