Review on Moen 22036 Stainless Steel Kitchen Sink Basket Strainer with Drain Assembly - 3-1/2 Inch by Alex Ferry

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great without filler (see review)

Our kitchen sink was starting to leak around the drain so it was time to replace the strainer. On our old screen, the putty seems to have dried out and chipped off the seal. We bought this because of the extra seal it came with and not having to rely on plumber's putty again. However, some of the other reviews bothered us so we decided to try and test it without putty first before plugging in the entire drain pipe and we had no leaks. A few tips for people having trouble 1.) Make sure the surface on both sides (top and bottom) of the drain hole is completely clean and free of residue so the new gaskets can do their job. 2.) Use the right tools. They make a $10 tool called a jam nut wrench to remove the large jam nut holding the filter and another sub $10 tool called a basket wrench to hold the basket . The tools allow you to apply enough torque to loosen the nut and remove the old screen. It also makes installing a new one very easy, no putty and no leaks! Both tools are shown in the photo and how they should be used. For really strong locknuts, have a friend hold the basket wrench from the top of the sink.
