My 5 year old definitely struggled with using this but we knew it would be more of a parent and child project to do together. The instructions show different designs and braids which are really cool, but understanding the picture instructions takes a little trial and error actually trying to replicate the steps. Once you get the hang of the pattern the bracelets are quick to make and turn out looking fantastic. I’m not sure where to get additional string but I imagine any bracelet string from a craft store would work fine. Overall we really like this craft and recommend it
