Review on πŸ”Š Sonos One (Gen 2) Two Room Set: Voice Controlled Smart Speaker with Alexa Built-in - 2-Pack Black/White by Fred Griffin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

All home sounds are pleasant; Setting (for IOS) is not very good.

Summary: Sound: Decent. Room-filling, especially for two - music streaming: easy - voice assistant: mixed. Alexa is good at everything. Google Assistant for Android is good. For IOS - good luck. The One was easy to get out of the box. Starting with IOS, I was able to quickly launch the Sonos app and link it to my favorite audio streaming service. Pairing an LR with another One is also easy. Playing music is easy. The sound was pretty good until I played some bass heavy tracks and then not so good. This is a small woofer though, so don't be too surprised. All is well. Then I tried to add my favorite Google voice assistant. After repeated attempts on multiple IOS devices, resets and re-downloads, I reached out to Twitter for help (not a fan of this mechanism). They responded quickly but after several conversations they noticed the problem but didn't offer any solution. I forgot my old Android device, so I downloaded the Sonos app and was able to easily set up Google Assistant. And now it works on my IOS devices. As part of this I tried installing Alexa via IOS and it worked fine. I had even more fun trying to set up a second speaker for someone else with a new Sonos ID. Oddly enough, once you've logged into the Sonos app with one user ID, you can't just log out and log in with another. Of course you can log out, but when you return to the application, you can only enter a password for an existing user ID. The problem can be solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Now that I have everything set up (one paired to the SL and one separate) everything works fine. Easy installation out of the box? No not at all. Pretty annoying for me. That said, if I were using Alexa and/or an Android device, it would probably be a really satisfying experience. I recommend some technical understanding and patience, especially if you're using an iOS device with Google Assistant.

Pros
  • Combine them in the same room for richer, deeper stereo sound.
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other picks
