Review on Zoo Med Reptile Stand Large by Marcel Robinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Affordable, durable, flexible and functional stand is a real winner!

Let me start by saying that I received this stand almost a year ago. So far I'm very happy with it for my purposes. I got this stand a year ago when we found a Mediterranean pet gecko in a hay delivery for our horses. We live in the rural southwestern desert and we don't know how this little fella ended up on this haystack, but we did know he wasn't a local and probably wasn't suited to our climate. We put it in our old 30x12 tank and adjusted it for safety and comfort. It lived about a year before dropping very suddenly from 100 to 0 in a week. Since he was a tiny, shy nocturnal creature who ate crazed crickets until his death, we could only assume that it was because of his age, but we were happy to give him some space when we read that most of his kind feed animals for lovers are , larger creatures. For the gecko, we used this with daylight and a midnight blue "moonlight" heat lamp. He just emerged from his gecko den and we could see him perched on the succulents while waiting for an opportunity to pounce on his crickets. This fixture contained these two bulbs in a double dome: Zoo Med Mini Combo Deep Dome Lamp, Black. We've adjusted it many times to go in and out of the cage and illuminate different plants throughout the day. The adjustment options and the ability to swing your arm back and forth are very comfortable and we've been using this constantly for almost a year. After the death of a gecko and the loss of my longtime canine friend last summer, I wanted a special friend and decided on a dog from the lizard family: the bearded dragon. We are very happy with our fun friendly new pet and the environment we have - although it's not our dream yet! - works great and this lamp stand is part of that equation. Here's the basics: You get a flat sheet of metal with a hollow, welded tube placed perpendicular to the sheet. The plate is thin but very, very strong and has about 6-7 inches that can slip under your tank/chassis wall. There are knobs in two places along the height of the stand that you can use to loosen or tighten in turn. to raise and lower the top metal tube and then secure it in place. At the top is a lever parallel to the metal plate and perpendicular to the tube coming from the plate. This lever has a knob to adjust the length of the lever. to make room for extra lamps or to move the lamp to where you want it. There is a strong metal hook at the end of the bracket for you to hang things, but you can also hang your lamps on the bracket. Pros: Cost: It's a good value for the quality and functionality. I bought mine at an even better price from Revain Warehouse, but I'd pay the $25-$30 I usually see here because it's worth it. Durability: As I said, I've been using this for a year, we've adjusted the knobs countless times and we've rocked it back and forth multiple times. Please once a day to clean, feed and care for our critters. We're doing this even more with the dragon, which actually craves interaction, as opposed to the shy night gecko (RIP, rancor!). It can feel a little wobbly when the knobs are loose, but once you tighten them everything stays in place. Ours will withstand any movement and supports our aforementioned Dual Lamp Dual Dome and the new Flukers Super Dome with 160W mercury vapor basking + UVB lamp. (Links if it helps!: Exo Terra Solar-Glo High Intensity Mercury Lamp with Self Ballast and Thermal Vapor, 160W and Fluker's Sun Dome Reptile Lamp - Large Deep Dome Light) Again, with all that - the stand isn't doesn't feel wobbly at all - and has been moved, adjusted, used - daily - and held things up for a year without a fuss. Nuff' said! Flexibility: You can remove some of the tubes in the center stand to make it shorter - it looks like it - although I don't think most people will end up with a stand that tall and stable. And it can stretch up to 38 inches. We're about 30 inches, and it seems sturdy even at that height. Our arm is extended about 15 inches. I think she could work more, although not much more as far as I can remember. I don't want to check now as our bearded man is napping after his first walk on a leash + dinner + sunbathing. Long day! Again, it's solid at this length and we're moving it a ton. Many times a day we flip our hand over the tank the other way so we can lift the lid of our suitcase to take care of it. Walter - ie Walter Bishop of Fringe ;-) Appearance: It is not set with diamonds, gold plated or wrought iron pegs. Lampshades with glossy black (powder-coated?) lacquered metal finish: Quality: If you are not convinced by the durability in daily continuous use, then I don't know what is. clumsy (wonderful!), cop friend in the china shop uses it every day and it hasn't broken, means something to some - you know someone like that? u* someone like that. If that's the case, I'm pretty sure this should stand up to all reasonable, or even pretty normal, random use that might be thrown at it. Cons: I don't have any. Conclusion: This thing works GREAT. If I had to buy another one, or had more reptile friends in the future, I would definitely buy more of these coasters. They work, stand up to heavy use, are flexible and are well priced. I hope this review helps and I've added some photos which I hope will help as well. away from hot hot HOT lampshades. Just something to keep in mind, especially if you stretch your arm out a bit and/or use multiple lights like I did. The last thing you want is for the cable to melt and the wire to short out and who knows what. Be as safe as possible by keeping things neat and tidy. Much luck! Hint #2: This applies to lamps, coasters and thermometers - check carefully how high you need your lamp to be to keep your pet's favorite bathing spot at the ideal temperature. Our thermometer on the hot side looks cooler for a bearded man's bathing spot, but we can't put the thermometer on a log as it won't stick properly and disrupt the "better place!" Therefore, after repeated verification of three meters with known meters and on a log and adjacent areas, we brought it on board the tank. The top center of the trunk reaches a range of about 100-105 just below the center of the UV lamp we installed. Outside the middle of the log at the two ends of the trunk it is less hot. We originally had a smaller heat lamp and the difference wasn't that big - it really depends on the bulb, so just use a thermometer to check the center spot of the bulb beam at the nearest spot (although the gauge may not be sitting there perfectly). ) and so - for safety! Walter LOVES to sit in a hot place. Then he opens his mouth. Then he shuffles to the edge of the log. Then it crawls back to the hotspot and flattens out like a lizard donut. Then run around the tank. Then he returns to the hotspot. Then he goes and takes a nap under a log. He seems very happy and comfortable and we are very happy with this setup so far. :-) Again, hope this helps and good luck! UPDATE 3/11/2018: I loved it so much I got a second one to expose a second UVB that doesn't produce heat like the mercury lamp we use for our bearded man heat spot. I've had a different fluorescent light but I think with more UVB it won't hurt him fiddling around and lying on his rocks and branches throughout the tank as now that he's comfortable with his surroundings he's started doing more to do. Definitely recommend as a useful tool for lighting and heating a pet enclosure without too much effort. Tank 36 x 18 with beautiful front doors. Lamp stands allow us to place lamps and heaters above the tank so everything is well lit, with UV-B and a good thermal gradient. I love her! And Walter has grown to 19 inches and is now getting fuller as he grows. He loves his large aquarium, heated bathing area, and other well-lit areas when he needs light but not as much heat. He loves some of his vegetables. - like zucchini - along with blueberries and dubia, but if we want him to eat vegetables we often have to stick them to his zucchini or his berries since he looks like a picky guy, he will try many things but not eat after first taste in most cases. OK. We keep on trying. I would highly recommend these lamp stands as they work great, are so solid and have not given us the slightest problem from day one. 5+ stars for these guys and I would buy them again if we had more reptiles in the future. there are UV lights throughout the enclosure, although he spends most of his time in the warm area or pool. g as it stands by my bed where I work or watch movies on my laptop. Walter LOVES movies! He'll be sitting in front of his warm side in the "cinema square" and if we don't play him anything he'll catch our eye and then stare at my laptop until we get the idea. And he can stare in delight for hours. He has an affinity for animal movies, landscape documentaries, cartoons and strangely likes Ugly Betty. it's really colorful and has a lot of movement. However, after the Jurassic Park marathon, I had to warn him not to come up with crazy ideas. ;-)
