Review on Salomon Outline Hiking Phantom Magnet by Richard Carroll

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Disappointing. Save money and buy a non-GTX.

I really wanted to love these shoes. I know many people who have bought Salomon Mid GTX shoes and love them. I really wanted a durable, waterproof shoe that could be worn every day and felt like a running shoe. When I first received the shoes it was a few days before the Yosemite hike. They fit very well and feel good on my feet. While in Yosemite I walked through a shallow stream and after 30 seconds in the water the water started seeping out. I was very disappointed. I paid 20 or 30 bucks more for the GTX version of these sneakers and they really aren't waterproof. Rather waterproof. I recommend getting normal contours. Don't waste your money on a GTX model. I bought the Ultra 3 GTX mid and they are much better, break instantly and are actually waterproof. Can highly recommend.

Pros
  • Waterproof hiking shoes. This comfortable and lightweight hiking shoe features durable GORE-TEX material to keep feet dry and a lug pattern that works well on both hard and smooth and soft and loose surfaces.
