From pleasure to dissatisfaction in a few months

I bought this backup camera to replace my 2012 Ford Explorer. Was encouraged by the 4-1/2 stars. Installation was a bit of a PITA, mainly due to the fact that the automakers (Ford) don't want to make it easy for Joe Carovner to fix things like this, so take it back to the dealer and they'll break you dry. Having said that, the installation itself went well, with all the various wires attached to the backplate to which it was attached and hidden. The camera worked fine for several months, now it does not work sporadically, the picture twitches or is distorted, then suddenly it works again. Very frustrating as I don't want to take the damn thing apart again. Also, the colored dotted lines running on both sides of the screen are positioned differently than in the original. They are closer to the sides so in the past if you parked parallel you could use the lines to guide you to the curb. Due to the location of the new lines, you'll hit curbs if you don't level. To pay $145 and hear all the enthusiastic comments (although something must be wrong as previous comments express the same displeasure), I would have hoped for a more satisfying outcome. I'm warning you, this could be a crappy shoot for you.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Nothing here
