I always thought that this whole "panini frenzy" was just hype; Fashion. I figured the panini press was just another poorly made yuppie toy crowding middle-class stands and soon destined for the landfill. I mean, REALLY, it's just a toasted sandwich with little grill marks on it, right? Well, I bought it on the spur of the moment and I love it! Months later we are still using it 4+ times a week. I've never used any press other than this so can't really compare but this is great for the price and has worked reliably from day one. It is well made and easy to clean. The non-stick surface isn't coated in a thin layer to scratch like the dozens of pans I've spent dollars on over the years. The press's floating lid is an important feature for evenly toasting thicker sandwiches. The Hamilton Beach Press turned out to be a lot more versatile than one might think; I'm looking online for recipes I've tried and I really liked all of these things: bacon, baked apples, zucchini and tomatoes, onions. Lots of ideas to try.
