Review on πŸ”‘ Keyecu Modified Flip Folding Remote Key Shell for S60 S70 S80 S90 V70 Case FOB 4+1 Button - Enhanced Design and Functionality by Ricardo Fast

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Basically better than new.

My original key was cursed like others with a broken and flexible jackknife. The remote's buttons were also quite worn, and the original's key loop was a joke; I'm not sure what they call a key loop in Sweden, but that crap doesn't fly here in America! So in these three points, this replacement key is awesome. The material appears to be identical to the original: very strong plastic with the same matte texture and color, and even the same weight/weight. The keychain loop is amazing: you can put a big strong ring in there. The switchblade works great. As another reviewer mentioned and the item description says it's just a remote control shell and a blank master key: there's no circuit board and transponder chip here and the key is blank so you have to move those three items plus the battery into the shell. There are several videos on YouTube on how to do an exchange and one of them that is over 50 minutes long is downright scary. It does NOT take 50 minutes: it takes about 10 and I'm very careful. Assuming you've watched a few of these videos, I'd like to add the following: By far the most nerve-wracking part of this process is removing the anti-theft tag. You must gently and CAREFULLY separate the top half of your old key to remove the transponder and cut out the key. Note: In this process you will destroy the old key body. I used a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the top of the key. Concentrate on the area closest to the key itself and stay away from where the transponder is located (right side when looking at the key from the front/button side). There is very little clearance between the right and top edges and the transponder itself. Also, focus on separating the top and bottom if that makes sense: the transponder chip is in the bottom half of the case. A little tip that isn't mentioned in any of the YouTube videos: take some superglue thinner and apply it liberally to the entire surface with the transponder, if you can even dab a little inside the case. I didn't do that and was lucky, but I did notice in the original way that the transponder was partially and imprecisely glued to the inside of the case and I can imagine that on some of them the glue stuck the chip on both halves are attached on both the top and bottom, so if the chip is ripped off there is a risk of it breaking just from the fact that glue is being pulled on it. A solvent helps mitigate this risk and can make the extraction process a little easier. If you separate this other part you will see a small glass tube: this is your transponder. Again, be careful with this little thing and don't force it out. Luckily mine came out right away, but you may have to gently pry/break a small piece of plastic around the transponder to get it loose. Once free you can move it to this new one and just put it back in: you'll even find that the new shell has a much better case for the transponder chip than your original key, that's nice. It should slide straight. I won't go into the details of how to move your key as this is well handled in YouTube videos. Only thing I'll say here is that when you're ready to seal this you'll need to put some super glue on the top as it alone won't withstand the torque of twisting. upon ignition. However, use a small amount of superglue and apply it to the inner wall separating the chip body from the metal key area: you just want to glue it. Keep in mind that you may have to take it apart again in a few years, and you don't want to make it any harder on yourself than necessary. So here's my only criticism, but I don't think it deserves one star. Once I got everything assembled and working, I noticed the key blade rattling: This new remote didn't come with a wiper, which is why I'm giving it one star. The crush washer is a super thin wavy washer that goes down first when you insert the metal blade into the new housing and keeps the key from rattling. Key to my old 2005 XC70. Love it!
