Taiyo Yuden is the best and always has been

I was informed that this review is outdated because TY/JVC stopped producing blank discs in Japan and selling brand names via SMS Has . I would now do some research before buying this product. --- Original review from 2011 -- Earns 10 stars for unwavering excellence. Tayo Yuden (TY) has been in this business longer than anyone; They released the first recordable CDs in 1988. The brand is not well known outside of Japan, but has a market share of around 60% in Japan. Many other disc vendors (like Memorex and Sony) just rename whatever they can get at a good price. . So if you buy from these guys you are at the mercy of an unknown manufacturer who may or may not be good. Usually you get a burn that lasts for a while, but sometimes it doesn't. And durability is a gamble. A year or 20, who knows? TY does not rename. Everything they sell is made locally in the Yanagawa Industrial Zone in Date, Fukushima so you have a good idea of what you're getting. This is the brand that dominates the professional studios. In 2009, TY acquired the rights to use the JVC trademark for use on blank media, so what you're getting today is likely to be a JVC trademark. I have used several brands over the years until I knew what to buy. This is Tayo Youden. It's been a happy customer ever since - and now it's a strict no-substitute policy. The only thing to watch out for is a counterfeit TY product. Try to buy from reputable, legitimate TY retailers and learn the little things that make TY different from copiers. For 16x DVD-R TY, the media code of the original TY disc is TYG03 and the batch code on the hub is GHxxxxxx.

Pros
  • DVD burning speed up to 16X
Cons
  • I'll write back later
