Review on 🚲 Stay Safe and Stylish on the Roads with Giro Savant Adult Road Cycling Helmet by Narendra Thapa

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Comfortable and visible protection.

Giro Savant Helmet First off, let me say I've used a Bell Image helmet for decades so that's my only basis for comparison. I bought a medium sized Giro Savant based on the Giro sizing chart and it fits well and comfortably although I'm on the small end of the range for this size. The adjustable head strap with handle is a definite improvement over the Bell and helps keep the helmet securely on your head. The chin strap seems to conform to modern practice, but not as elegantly as that of the old Bell, whose straps were flush with the sides of the head and had an elegant simple clasp under one ear. The Giro bands twist on each side due to the under-ear attachment, so they don't sit snugly on the sides of the head, although I don't find this uncomfortable. The straps are a little fiddly to adjust, but they seem to stay in place afterward. The fact that the Giro comes in bright yellow (like the Bell) and reflective strips down the sides can help avoid car fights (I don't understand the suicidal craze of black bikes and accessories). My first ride in the Savant was on a cool (59 degrees Fahrenheit) low dew point summer morning, and I immediately noticed improved airflow to my scalp compared to the Bell. The second thing I noticed as I picked up speed was a noticeably increased wind noise around my ears. I don't know if it's because of the twisted straps, the increased airflow through the helmet, or the more pronounced notch over the ears, but it's louder than the bell. The differences I'm citing seem to be typical of most modern helmets I've seen, so perhaps noise is the price of a better fit and better ventilation, and my only concern is the noise from oncoming vehicles , children or dogs. As I've gotten used to the sound, it's not satisfactory. The Giro is comfortable to wear and stayed that way throughout my ride (about 1 hour 45 minutes) with no shifting or pressure points. On my second ride of the same length but with higher temperatures and humidity, the Giro Savant faded from my memory - which is good. I used the Giro Savant almost daily for about two months and found it to be everything I expected until an unknown event occurred. and I must have hit the sidewalk. I say "unknown" because I had a concussion and passed out for about 20 minutes until I got home without knowing how I got here. A review of my injuries as well as bike, clothing and helmet injuries revealed that I landed on my back and hit the back of my head. The only external signs of the Savant were a blunt tip and a small scratch on the back. Inside the Savant, microcracks were found in the rigid foam structure in several places around the intended impact point. There were no visible signs of trauma to my head, suggesting my concussion was the result of my brain impacting my skull internally. I have no way of knowing how the Giro Savant's performance compares to other helmets in these circumstances and I have no intention of repeating the experiment, but the Giro is intact and so is my head if not damaged is (20 minutes are lost). I will buy another Giro Savant.
