Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ Cordless CHV1410L: The Ultimate Black+Decker Dustbuster for Effortless Cleaning by Jason Lewis

The battery will expire after 3 years and is not user replaceable.

I like the long retractable pickup and the general suction power. Not a big fan of a desktop charging station (I would have preferred a wall mount). But after 3.5 years of light use (running less than five minutes a week) my CHV1410L vacuum's battery died. Unfortunately, the battery is NOT user replaceable. Too bad, because the vacuum cleaner still looks like new. And it would be wasteful to throw it in the trash just because Black & Decker didn't design this device so that we could change the battery. For this reason, the vacuum cleaner only gets 3 stars from me. Fortunately, I have many years of experience with electronic devices. I also reconditioned some lithium batteries. So I decided to change the batteries in the vacuum cleaner. This project isn't for the average person, so skip this idea if you're unfamiliar with lithium battery safety. I disassembled the vacuum cleaner by unscrewing six screws. Once inside, I found that the battery can be removed by unplugging it. Luckily, the battery pack's plastic casing is held in place with two plastic tabs that move apart. Inside the case are four (4) 18650 size lithium batteries and a cell charge protection circuit board. The recovery process was easy. I used four high current flat top 18650 cells (rated at 20A continuous). This type of cell can be found in some high capacity vaping devices. When soldering elements, it is very important to avoid overheating. I used a temperature controlled iron, added flux and worked quickly to keep heat hold time to a minimum. The items I use are: Odec 18650 Battery 2600mAh 3.7V/35A High Drain Battery Flat Top with Storage Box (4 Packs). I will not take this review as a guide to battery recovery. Instead, I'm here to say that the battery will probably last 3-4 years and your vacuum will then just be another e-waste in the landfill. This problem is not unique to this product, but it is such a pity that manufacturers are not doing more to rid us of modern society's habits of throwing away products.
