First I turned on the beep function and when the dog wasn't listening I used the zap function. I only had to use the zap function twice before it obeyed the beep. Previously semi-trained in the usual "sit-and-shake" commands, she would understand "no" but would not listen in public or in company. Also, the included collar is annoying, so buy a new collar that's larger than what your dog is wearing. My dog wears a medium size but with the training in place it is too tight and the oversized collar solved that problem. I also tested this on myself before putting it on my dog and the 100 shock feature is uncomfortable but not painful but I didn't want my pup to think she was being punished so I only have those 50 shock function and the beep function signal used on 100.
