I don't know how to estimate the thickness because the substance has the fluidity of water. This is a lifesaver for my fish. I have exotic goldfish and they produce insane amounts of ammonia. I've tried everything to reduce it. Even with ammonia-reducing filter pads, ammonia-reducing water conditioner, weekly water changes, and feeding every other day, my ammonia levels are still off the charts. This product helps reduce the potential harm that ammonia can cause. I had a few fish that were still developing various diseases that we concluded were related to high ammonia levels, but this product helped. Since I can't control my ammonia after all the efforts, I've decided to stop buying fish. I'll let the few that are left live their lives and then I'll be done with it. But I think it helped them not to suffer.
