I have used this in my cycle to speed up the growth of bacteria that convert nitrates to nitrogen gas. I believe this is how this product works. I can say I saw huge nitrate drops 3 weeks after starting. Normally your nitrates will increase towards the end of the cycle, in this case they will drop from over 100ppm to 40ppm without a water change. And I'm still dosing ammonia. Very great material. Hopefully I won't have to constantly dose nitrate reducers once the bacterial population is large enough. But I'm sure I'll find out in time.
