Works great and looks lovely. In fact, I didn't expect the countertop to be glossy. It's a rather dark wood color but looks very modern showing water and stains like a glass top. As for the size, we have a large sofa and it slides perfectly on the cushions and the table top is small to medium in size. The bottom shelf is a nice feature that you won't find on others, but ours is a dog hair collect because it's not very practical to put books or magazines there once you customize the table. As a new mom, I use it to keep everything handy (remote, coffee, snacks) when I'm on the couch with my newborn. Remarkably, I found it didn't easily slide down our carpet, which is necessary as I like being able to take it to another location with all my goodies without having to pick it up. We have since actually placed this table in our room where it will be permanent and have found a larger one that slides more easily and also offers more surface area for our family room.
