I chose this product over others because of the peel and stick ability, not the double sided tape capability. I have a folding closet door that sits next to the bedroom door and when I open the closet the door sometimes collides with it and scratches. After touching up the paint on the scratched cabinet door panel and allowing the paint to fully dry, I installed a piece of it that I cut out to fit the door panel. This completely eliminated the problem and it's crystal clear to the point of being barely visible. I also have a cat so I'm sure over time I'll find a place to use leftover product. The neat knife that comes with this thick product is not an effective cutting tool for this purpose. Instead I used scissors. I recommend this product as a door scratch protector. Adhesion is very good. I think it would work on upholstery too.
