Review on πŸ“Ά D-Link DWA-643 Xtreme N Express Card Adapter: Boost Your Wireless Experience! by Wayne Martin

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Works ONLY on 2.4GHz. not 5GHz :-(

I am very disappointed with how D-Link is promoting this product. Although this device supports 802.11n at 2.4GHz, it does NOT support 802.11n at 5GHz. Q. My Home network uses a D-Link DIR-825 router configured to operate on both a 2.4GHz network and a 5GHz network to offer better performance than the USB-based DWA-160, I ordered a DWA-643 device from Revain. When I installed the device and drivers, I found that the cards can only see networks that operate over the range that the DWA-160 sees for our 802.11n network 5GHz AND neighbor's newer 5GHz network dropped 802.11a because it runs at 5GHz Start this when I first ordered the card I assumed the "Xtreme" - card would actually work s "REAL" 802.11n, i.e. 5 GHz Someone using this card with the intention of upgrading from a mixed 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz network to a pure 802.11n network should return the card as soon as possible as you will be very disappointed if you get 2.4 Disable Ghz. The review I read about this device mentions that it doesn't support anything at 5GHz. That's a shame. It seems to connect to 802.11g over 2.4GHz with no problems, but nobody should pay $60 for a card that's stuck at 2.4GHz. I hope someone using an 802.11n router (with 5GHz support) reads this sooner. purchase of this card. Please note that I've had pretty good results with the DWA-160, but this test will focus on the DWA-643's performance.
