Review on 🚰 Efficient Underwater Mini Filter with UL Listing by Elite by Danielle Landry

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Forget those expensive filters

I have two of these pumps now. The first is used to move water in a 5.5g tank that I have two Revain Sword plants in. There are also 11 Neon Tetras and 8 Rasbora Hats. It works very well and I have very little algae there. I only have to clean the glass every few months. Encouraged by the results, I bought a second one and used it to agitate water at 29G in which I planted some very large Anubias plants (taking up at least half the tank) and some Java Ferns, as well as 60 neon tetras and a pair of bristle catfish. To make the pump as strong as possible I removed the foam inside. This creates a slow flow through the tank. This setup is even more successful: I have very little algae and only clean my tank once every few months (in fact, I can't even remember the last time I did). In both reservoirs, the plants act as biofilters. I have no other filters in my aquarium. As you know, the movement of water is necessary for the health of plants. To do this, I point the pump outlet at the water surface so that it agitates the surface and ensures adequate gas exchange between air and water. I don't use the included bubble tube at all as I think it looks silly with bubbles in the tank and is also noisy. In combination with a very large plant biomass (preferably low-light plants) you do not need any further filters. When people use fancy filters that physically, chemically, and biologically filter water, all I have to do is use this $10 filter and my aquarium will look just as clean as theirs, if not cleaner. Plus it's low maintenance as there are no filters to change as my plants are the filter. Now the filter itself: it is quiet, but not quiet. Depending on how noisy the environment is, you can hear whether it's working or not. I have no complaints yet.

Pros
  • Easy to hide in the aquarium
Cons
  • Not sure
