Do not use for less than 3 gallons

I use this for a 1.5 gallon aquarium with multiple GloFish. The filter my tank came with (Tetra) was good but it broke every few months and I had to buy a new one every time. I found this to be a possible alternative as the price was about the same. PROS - I noticed that it definitely keeps the water clean - There's a dial you can turn on the side to adjust the strength - Not quiet, but not loud at all - Small enough to just put it in the corner of the to provide tanks. CONS - Even on the…

Excellent with some modifications

Four stars because it had to be modified to work properly in a 1.5 gallon tank. Since the exhaust is too strong (even on the lowest setting) for a 1.5 gallon tank in the Betta housing, I cut a sponge from another filter and stuff it into the exhaust nozzle at the end that connects to the filter housing . The filter sponge included in the kit has a hole in the middle. I filled it with activated carbon and covered it with a piece of sponge from another filter. The air hose was too long for my…

Pros
  • Fitted with a foam filter pad
Cons
  • Crumpled

WOW, great work! I keep it on the lowest setting and it still produces a decent amount of power. My tropical fish don't seem to mind. You can block the water supply with a plant or something similar if the current is too strong for you. I wouldn't particularly recommend this for betas, but I had a beta and it loved the flow out of the filter, often hanging around and swimming in the current the whole time. The running water didn't seem to bother him at all. He was there with a lot of other fish

Forget those expensive filters

I have two of these pumps now. The first is used to move water in a 5.5g tank that I have two Revain Sword plants in. There are also 11 Neon Tetras and 8 Rasbora Hats. It works very well and I have very little algae there. I only have to clean the glass every few months. Encouraged by the results, I bought a second one and used it to agitate water at 29G in which I planted some very large Anubias plants (taking up at least half the tank) and some Java Ferns, as well as 60 neon tetras and a pair

Pros
  • Easy to hide in the aquarium
Cons
  • Not sure
