Review on πŸ”΄ Vupoint Solutions Magic Wand Portable Scanner with WiFi - RED: Efficient Scanning Anywhere by Phillip Hoover

Pull-down scanning, poor usability and battery life

With a steady hand and reasonable expectations from a handheld scanner, you can expect pretty good scans. I usually scan scientific journal articles for my Evernote library. This scanner is well suited for this. You can just plug it into your computer's USB port and simply drag and drop scanned images from the microSD folder into Evernote notebooks. However, this scanner has serious disadvantages in use! Firstly, the small LCD screen makes it difficult to read the current settings, which are displayed on the screen periphery in the shadow of the frame. The format button (which erases microSD storage) is center and center and too easy to accidentally press! On several occasions I have had to remove the batteries to interrupt an accidental memory card formatting. There is no cancel button. Setting the date is a primitive process that needs to be repeated every time you change the battery! (I found that if you connect the scanner to USB before changing the battery, you can save the time settings). And you'll be changing batteries FREQUENTLY. Even if you don't scan anything and leave the scanner TURNED OFF for a few days, if you use it again (and with the WI-FI turned off!) you'll almost certainly need new batteries to transfer it to your computer's Wi-Fi. -Fi is functional but impractical. I no longer use it and always prefer the USB cable which is faster and easier to connect to my computer. Instead of having the scanner act as a router, I would like Wi-Fi to allow the scanner to connect to my home network and automatically transfer files to my computer, e.g. B. Eye-Fi 4GB Connect X2 SDHC Class 6 Wireless Flash Memory Card (AUGE-FI-4CN-FF) . VuPoint needs to solve these problems before a viable handheld scanner actually hits the market.
