Satisfaction after about three days

It takes a little getting used to, like all HikVision products, but the more I play with it, the more comfortable I get with it. I have 12 IP cameras, all Hikvision (well, one is unbranded, but it's made by HikVision and works just like all the others), and after playing around with them for years, I've always found them finicky and often counterintuitive. So after failing to set up a motion detector to catch a small herd of deer running through my yard (I swear I'm not making this up!) and uploading the still image to my local FTP server, I decided finally for that get an NVR and just write ALL the damn things down and you're done. He seemed to have no problem catching passing cars, just for some reason he didn't like deer. Cats, possums, raccoons - no problem; only deer. Very strange. I haven't seen deer yet, but I suspect NVR will solve the problem with continuous recording. Still find out iVMS with NVR. I don't currently use the POE feature as the NVR seems to want NAT for anything that connects directly to it, but I already had a POE switch so it doesn't matter in my case. NATing was a bit of an issue with two of my cameras sharing the same cable with a downstream two-port POE switch, and the NVR only assigns one address to that port. Later you can try the POE ports with some other cameras. or not. The remote seems more or less useless. I think iVMS should be the way to access the NVR because I need to keep it safe in my data closet. Okay, I just caught a deer walking by and the NVR actually caught it. The deer was also categorical. Maybe that's why the FTP motion detector couldn't pick them up - they're always on the run, but when a pack of about eight people walks through them you'd think.
