What happens when the battery is empty?

So I've driven this about 7000 miles, installed it in my van and it has worked flawlessly. I also like the MT50 meter, although I'm just looking at the stripes and smiling face. I use it in my retractable camper that rides in the back of a truck. The camper has been in my driveway for the last 2 months and I have decided to let it out. I turned on the fridge, the hood, and closed the shop for the night. What I forgot was to turn on the circuit breakers for the solar panels and the plant itself. The battery died overnight and this morning the low voltage fire alarm went off. Okay, no big deal, turn on the switches. Still no power to device. Then I remembered that this thing needs 12 volts from the battery before it can work. So if your battery is dead and you have no other way to provide a 12V input, there is no way to turn the device on and thus charge the battery using only solar panels. Press the hitch switch and use the car battery. This time I connected the built-in converter to a 120V outlet and everything was fine. I don't know what I would do if I used this as a standalone solution. Just something to note.
