I am an experienced industrial electrician with over 20 years of know-how. I've always had problems with electricity at home. After unplugging the light fixtures and checking the wiring, this handy circuit tester arrived. I started checking the outlets and found an intermittently faulty external outlet with a bad intermittent neutral connection. Without this tool I would not have found this problem. When plugged into the socket it found the problem (open neutral) but when I moved it a little the socket disappeared, open neutral (works intermittently). The meter wouldn't have found this problem without pulling a lot of sockets, this led me straight to the problem. This instrument, upon insertion into the vessel, showed that it was discontinuous. Problem solved. It undoubtedly saved me time! This is a must for any homeowner to diagnose electrical outlets.
