i am a bit biased as i love intel i grew up on field trips in portland or HQ and became a computer engineer when i first learned assembler code which was the beauty of architecture immediately obvious. The new generation of chips doesn't add too much material and is more like a product meant to fill a gap until 10nm chips are ready for consumers. That means there isn't a huge leap over the 7th gen chips in terms of features, but it seems to me that stability and performance have improved a lot. like 7th gen chips, VT-d and IOMMU technology means I can run Linux as my OS and still play games natively, Turbo Boost means I don't have to disable overclocking if I'm just doing basic work, 6 cores means I can plug multiple cores into my windows VM and it feels as responsive as a 4 core box. The overall simple physical design makes it easy to reinstall and compatibility isn't an issue. This prompted me to return to computers as a hobby and since then I've bought the 8086k as an upgrade and kept that as a backup. Now I'm waiting with bated breath for the X-Series.
