I purchased this item after an earthquake destroyed another for emergencies. Well I need it, which is why I bought it after I couldn't find a better one in stores in Anchorage, Alaska. I was pleasantly surprised at its quality and boiled water quickly, doing a quick boil test and also making sure it burned from the manufacturing coating on the heating element as per its docs. Got the smell away quickly. The surrounding base was hot to the touch but could still move the burner while still in use. The four legs didn't get hot enough to damage a hard surface on my countertop. Plan on using it when traveling to use in the hotel room for a late dinner and/or breakfast while hunkered down in Fairbanks. Much better quality than what I had before and cheaper. I would not hesitate to buy. I will end up buying another one for my teenage son when he goes to college. Will report on durability after longer use.
