I bought this device for two specific use cases: capturing VGA output from Windows 98SE devices and capturing VGA output from retro PC platforms Color Maximize 1 and Color Maximize 2. In both cases, my use cases (all shots with this device connected to another computer with OBS with a base resolution of 1920x1080 and scaled to a 4:3 ratio). notably on the retro Color Maximite 1 computer. Its video signal is generated entirely programmatically, passing bits through a small resistor ladder at some odd resolutions (240 x 216 and 480 x 432). This device just worked where it was very difficult for others to sync. Color Maximize 2 uses more traditional base resolutions, and this device handles them admirably. My most recent use case was a Dell C640 at 1400 x 1050 at 60Hz. For the price it works great. You definitely get slightly better quality with Epiphan's VGA capture device, but you can buy 8 or 9 for the price of one. We highly recommend this model!
