Locking mechanism provides some protection against accidental theft. The open chamber is huge and allows for a lot of travel. Once you set the acorn nut, you never have to touch it again. However, make sure that the curved plastic washer engages the cam properly. They can be a little difficult to open, but at least I know they're secure. I bought two of these for a home build truck rack. I'm thinking of buying a third one to add to my rack. The locks are cheap and all use the same keys, but again that's good for a thief. Good product!
