I bought these for a holiday home to see if there was a power outage that was causing the freezer to dangerously thaw/refreeze while we were away. Both thermometers were installed and worked properly for less than two months before the thermometer in the freezer stopped reading temperature and stopped responding to button presses. I took it out of the freezer and left it on the counter for about an hour and it worked again. I put it back in the freezer and the problem is back. I swapped the one in the fridge for the one in the freezer and the same thing happened; both will work in a refrigerator that is approximately 34 degrees Fahrenheit, but not in the freezer. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that batteries just aren't up to the task of operating below 0 degrees Fahrenheit for any length of time. The batteries need to be replaced every few months, making this device completely useless.
