This worked well for me, but I saw how difficult it could be for some people to use, so I took off a star for that. Here's the method I used: push the cord as far as you can to run it down the drain, then twist it with the handle (clockwise or counterclockwise doesn't seem to matter) and that Cable will shorten as you walk. The coiled wire at the end will work its way into the clog. Do this for a while, at least until the cable is visibly shortened. Then let it unwind in the opposite direction and pull it out. You should end up with an ugly pile of hairy goo. I've done this twice and my drain now flows freely instead of being completely clogged before.
