I'm really impressed. This is about as safe as it gets for a mandolin slicer. The blade is fully enclosed within the cutting board itself. It comes with three plates. The first plate can be rotated from side to side for different thicknesses, the other two plates are for grating. The instructions were very simple and they actually had color pictures. It only took two minutes to wash and assemble for first use. Some great features that I really like are that when you pick it up it actually fits into the storage case. However, the base of the board does not slip when lifted. So if you're cutting large batches, you can definitely put it on a countertop or cutting board. The blade plate mounting hole is very easy to access, and the blue plates have a handle so you don't have to touch the blades themselves. The veggies are crispy so you can see how much you're slicing. I like the piston that shoots. There is no need to put your fingers in the frame and accidentally hurt yourself. The spring-loaded plunger on the back is very easy to use. It pushes down very easily and the spring pushes up. Not only can you slice and dice much faster, but everything is even. This speeds up the slicing and slicing process. I find this particularly useful for slicing large batches, like potatoes and onions, used for scalloped potato casseroles. When I'm not using it, it folds up and stores flat.
