I wore one of these on my trip to Afghanistan because I don't like mud and dirt on my helmet and hair. Dating back to the '90s, this piece is basically a mambo sock made from a moisture-wicking material. I use them, essentially folding them in half and putting them on my head and then putting a helmet on them. In this configuration it also helps keep sweat out of my eyes and of course keeps my helmet from turning into a cauldron. In this respect, I would recommend using it not only for ballistic helmets, but also for motorcycle helmets etc.
