Ford F150 2011 What I did. Easy!

I have a 2011 Ford F150 with tow package; 7 blades and 4 wires are flat. This cable set fits snugly into an existing connector or when replacing. Use the Hopkins 40975 Multi-Tow Plug-In Kit (you don't need the included bracket). The colored wiring harness matches the F150 truck wiring as follows: white - white; blue to blue; brown to brown; green to green; yellow to gray with black stripe; red to yellow; black to orange. For myself I halved the length of the tourniquet since you don't need it. You will receive 6 yellow #10/12 butt plugs, so you will need one more for the white base. Some wires are thinner than #14 so after stripping them a little longer you can just bend them and they will crimp nicely into the slightly larger yellow plugs. I chose to purchase heat shrink connectors and not use the ones that came with them as they will be under the truck and exposed to the road weather. Maybe it doesn't matter much. Now wrap everything with electrical tape and, if necessary, fix the tourniquet so that it does not interfere. Both the connecting ends of the new wire harness and the new connector will be dry, so it is recommended to use some Permatex 22058 Dielectric Tune-Up Grease, 3 oz. Hose to protect against moisture. I took my time since I don't do this every day, used very basic tools, did my best on the desktop and got it done in 1 1/2 hours. Ah, it works great. 4 stars as this should include a 7th splice connector along with the included ground connector which was not needed in this situation.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
