STARTS KIRT IN ONE SECOND AFTER SWITCHING ON!

This heater started smoking a few seconds after I plugged it in and turned it on. The first thing I noticed was the horrible smell (which some heaters have when new). Then I plugged it in and turned it on. It's very quiet and doesn't push air out like many heaters so it was hard to tell if it was working at all and when I inspected it I noticed puffs of smoke coming from it. This has never happened to me with a parking heater.
