NOISY! The metal frame doesn't fit, but does the job!

We bought an old house whose bathroom was renovated in the 1980's. The old fan didn't work. It made noise but didn't work. We pulled out the old breather thing and tried to figure out that the plastic vanes had melted where they made contact with the engine. We went to our local big shop but found we had to drill a new hole and do drywall work etc. So I was looking for a replacement NuTone motor and fan for the 8814, 8663 or 8673 and found this in my search results. It arrived within a week. I knew from other reviews that the frame would not line up perfectly. I have little interest in working with metal, so I just changed the frames. I've put the new and old blocks side by side so you can see how similar they are and how they look like they're lined up. I used a ratchet wrench (I'm a girl, I can use that kind of language) and disconnected the motor and fan part from the new metal frame and reattached them to the old metal frame. Voila! But when we installed this thing. Oh God! This mother's lover is loud. The high pitched sound was such that I thought it was scratching something. We took it out right away. Later I brought it to my workshop and turned it on. He is usually big, whiny and noisy like a toddler. So we reinstalled it after a week. He passed the paper napkin test LOUD. it takes some time to get used to. It helps if you enjoy talking/singing to yourself out loud in the shower.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
