Thought it would be a great idea instead of pounding nails in my walls but...

I thought it would be a great idea instead of pounding nails in my walls but now that mine Pictures have been hanging for a few months they are starting to fall off the walls. I had one that fell and the whole frame broke and the rest thank goodness were canvases. I've used them as intended and don't understand how after a few months of hanging them they could just start falling off.
