This is a necessary item!

I have had a Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for a year now and I really enjoy it. It was and is worth every penny of the $400 I paid for it. When it came to its successor, the HD-A3, which now retails for just $125 on Revain, I couldn't resist. I was looking for a second DVD player - one that could match the HD-A2 for playing standard DVDs while also offering the novelty of full HD intermittent playback. I'm happy to report that the HD-A3 is every bit as good as the phenomenal HD-A2. Watching a standard DVD tonight it dawned on me why Sony and Warner Brothers are conspiring against HD DVD and especially Toshiba's incredible players. Both the HD-A2 and A3 reproduce a standard DVD picture superior to anything you will see on a local multiplex - a picture very close to Full HD. When you think of the number of standard DVD movies available through Netflix, movies that are never converted to HD due to the additional production costs, especially Blu-Ray, then buying a Toshiba HD-A3 is the way to go. From what I've read, no Blu-Ray player can upscale standard DVDs like these Toshiba machines can. Maybe it's because Blu-Ray is so radically different from DVD that players are at a disadvantage even when playing DVDs, let alone upscaling? Toshiba's HD DVD players effortlessly enhance standard DVD movies. I use an Optoma projector and a 7ft screen and get amazing results. The sound is amazing too. So if you like movies - I mean really love movies - what are you waiting for? Buy the Toshiba HD DVD player for its ability to play over 90,000 Netflix titles in virtual HD quality. It's certainly a great way to get through the format wars and growth challenges of HD and Blu-Ray's ever-changing specs, giving you time to see if even Blu-Ray can take its place in the market. Finally, what became of DVD-Audio and SACD, which were meant to replace CD? Both failed and even the CD is being replaced by MP3s and iPods. It is very likely that both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will follow the same path. In the meantime, enjoy the HD-A3 and let Warner and Sony know about it.
