Dissatisfied with this product, bad to use.

I chose this model solely because of the large number of formats that it supports - here, in fact, few people can compete with it. Received, unpacked, launched - shows. But he didn’t rejoice for long: the second time you turn on the device, it gives an unknown error and refuses to turn on. Of the minor - the remote control is uncomfortable, with small buttons and extremely demanding on the angle of direction, it worked 2-3 times.

Pros
  • Large number of supported formats, compactness
Cons
  • Broke on the second viewing, low-quality remote control

Now this HD-DVD is dead.

I bought this unit after Toshiba announced they were phasing out HD-DVD. What, am I crazy? Well, I got the unit for a little over a hundred with two free DVDs ("The Bourne Conspiracy" and "300"). I then bought the HD DVD Collector's Editions of Blade Runner, Planet Earth, 2001 and U2 Rattle and Hum for less than half the price of the Blu-ray versions. I was surprised at how well the scaling performed on standard DVDs. An A/B comparison with my 5 year old Sony player at 720p showed a significant

Outstanding Viewing Experience

This is a DVD player on steroids anyway. Overall great quality as with most Toshiba products I've had. As this is a review and I have to be very picky, the only negative I can think of is the "load time" which seems to be a full minute. In other words, it takes about a minute from turning on the device to opening the DVD tray. Is that overkill for other HD DVD players? I have no idea, but compared to what I've used in the DVD space, it's pretty slow in that regard. However, it's not really a…

Good deal for the price.

I bought this player for $127 about 2 weeks before Toshiba stopped fighting HD-DVD. Since I persevered and only paid $99 for my first DVD player a few years ago, I thought it was a good deal. I still believe in it. Despite the demise of HD-DVD this player still converts older DVDs, I saw Open Range 2 days ago and it looked great on my 42" Samsung DLP. The player itself is very thin, I connected it to the TV without any problems. It doesn't include an HDMI cable, I bought it from Revain for less

Despite the outdated format, a good deal for the cautious

You're buying an HD TV and you'll soon need a high definition DVD player. Most of the videos you watch on it will still be in standard definition, but even then you'll need a player that can upconvert them to look their best on this new set. The Blu-ray Disc player will cost you another $400 or so: oh, especially when you're already shelling out that much for the Tivo HD. In addition, there are rumors that the Blu-Ray format itself is about to undergo a major upgrade and disc player prices will

crossed fingers for TV and Video

First of all this player has worked fine for me with one exception throwing error 408bc504 repeatedly on one disc (so far), brand new HD DVD copy ready to play "Planet Earth". This error is a machine freeze that requires a power outage to get it working again. Aside from that drive, I've had no issues with SD-DVD or HD-DVD, including NetFlix rentals. I've been following a lot of discussions on the AVS forums ([.] and I know a few things I didn't know before I bought this player. This player…

A few words about firmware update time.

Either people are exaggerating about the current time, or their internet connection is slow, or I just got lucky. I strongly suspect it's a combination of the first two. Since my TV is too far from my router to update the firmware over Ethernet, I decided to download the firmware ISO file and burn it onto a CD-RW. HDD (that way I can use the same HDD next time instead of wasting a great 700MB CD-R). After I inserted the disc and started the firmware update process, it took exactly 10 minutes. I

This is a necessary item!

I have had a Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player for a year now and I really enjoy it. It was and is worth every penny of the $400 I paid for it. When it came to its successor, the HD-A3, which now retails for just $125 on Revain, I couldn't resist. I was looking for a second DVD player - one that could match the HD-A2 for playing standard DVDs while also offering the novelty of full HD intermittent playback. I'm happy to report that the HD-A3 is every bit as good as the phenomenal HD-A2. Watching a…
